Summer Patterns That Feel Like a Party

Summer invites a special kind of celebration - carefree backyard gatherings, cold drinks, paper plates, and sweet treats. There is a simplicity to summer entertaining that makes everything feel a little less serious.

And when you want to make the occasion feel a little more special or memorable, there is no need to do anything elaborate, A little color, pattern, and playfulness can do most of the work.

Color That Sets the Party Mood

Bright color is one of the easiest ways to instantly signal fun, celebration, and summer energy.

There is no need to get technical about color theory here. Pick colors that make you happy and let them do the decorating.

Tropical pinks, sunny yellows, and juicy greens, paired with a little pattern mixing, can make a party feel coordinated and joyful without looking styled or too perfect.

My Vacay All Day collection was inspired by easy summer celebrations with a little vacation-at-home energy.

Tropical motifs have always said relaxed celebration to me. A fancy beach vacation may not always be possible, but a splash of tropical pattern can bring some of that same spirit to everything from partyware and fabric to gift wrap.

I wanted these patterns to be the visual equivalent of an umbrella in your drink - completely unnecessary and absolutely essential.

So how do you take a simple backyard gathering from casual to a little extra special?

One of my favorite tricks is using paper and pattern in unexpected ways. Wrapping paper does not necessarily have to stay on a gift. A small piece of colorful paper can become:

• a snow cone or snack wrapper
• a tray liner
• a simple napkin ring
• a placemat or table accent
• a backdrop for treats or party favors

Sometimes the tiniest, slightly unnecessary detail is the thing that makes the whole party memorable.

Wrap It Up With a Little More Color

It is always nice to send guests home with a small treat. A little bit of patterned paper folded into a pretty bag or wrapped around a small box can keep the celebration going after the party ends.

Summer does not need a special occasion to feel celebratory. Sometimes all it takes is a cold treat, a table full of color, and a few playful details added for no other reason than they make you smile.

Honestly, that feels like reason enough to have a party.
